Korea to reward citizens who report illegal sports betting
Korea is urging its citizens to report illegal sports betting activity through the Illegal Sports Toto Reporting Center, reminding them that those who report will receive awards up to ₩200 million ($133,500).
The center accepts information about operators, users, and illegal sports betting promoters, either through its official website or its hotline at 1899-1119, which is done in an effort to make it easier for citizens to provide information that could help the government eliminate illegal betting operations in the country.
The rewards are granted through a tiered system, with ₩200 million awarded in cases of information against illegal gambling operators, while match-fixing information is equal to a ₩50 million award, and reports on usage, promotion, or broadcasting can earn up to ₩15 million.
Bank and payment accounts tied to illegal gambling activities can also be reported, with each confirmed case qualifying for a ₩100,000 reward.
However, there are some limits on how much one person can receive in rewards for reporting. For platforms that generate different URLs for the same websites, only the first reporter of the platform can qualify for full compensation. Additionally, informants can get up to ₩15,000 per case and a maximum of ₩1.5 million per person.
