Lawsuit accuses Stake.com of luring minors to illegal casino
The Schenk Law Firm has filed a lawsuit in the New York Supreme Court, accusing Stake.com of illegally recruiting minors into its offshore crypto casino through influencer marketing.
The lawsuit targets not only Stake.com, but also Coinbase, which is believed to have served as the financial service that allowed and sustained the gambling activity. According to the complaint, the offshore crypto platform is accused of using influencer marketing on platforms like Twitch and Kick to target young users, effectively increasing youth addiction.
Benjamin Schenk, trial lawyer at the Schenk Law Firm, commented:
“Stake.com operates illegally in every state in the United States. And yet over five million Americans visit the platform every month. The founders pay influencers hundreds of millions of dollars a year to target minors and livestream gambling on their respective media and gambling platforms. These entities operate without a moral anchor, run by people who see themselves as above borders, ethics, and the law. It’s time they answer to the American public.”
The lawsuit states that the plaintiff was only 13 years old and was able to create a Coinbase account to fund the offshore gambling activities. Meanwhile, Stake.com is blamed for offering its services in the U.S. despite a clear ban by using VPNs, mirror sites, and a network that operates through Discord, which allows it to bypass age and identity verifications.
Frederick Schenk, managing partner of the Schenk Law Firm, added:
“This is not a story about a kid who found a loophole. It’s a story about an industry that built the loophole, marketed it to children, and collected fees on every transaction. We intend to hold every link in that chain accountable.”
Through the complaint, the law firm aims to hold the defendants accountable and address the systemic failures that led to a minor being able to access illegal gambling.
