The blocking was officially announced on September 8, 2026, after the LPT launched an investigation into the services offered on Polymarket‘s website and ruled that despite branding itself as a “prediction market,” the platform showed clear signs of unlicensed betting. During the probe, the regulator created and funded its own account, using it to place bets with fixed odds on real sporting outcomes, activity it says is equal to illegal gambling since Polymarket holds no license in Lithuania.
The regulator shared in a statement:
“The LPT investigated the services provided on the website www.polymarket.com. Although the site claimed to offer participation in a “prediction market” – a system where participants trade with one another by buying or selling predictions regarding the outcome of events – the investigation revealed characteristics of gambling, specifically betting.”
The LPT said it obtained a court order from the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court, which approved instructions requiring internet service providers to block access to Polymarket and ordering payment providers to stop all transactions with the platform’s operator, Adventure One QSS. The regulator described the action as blocking an attempt to bypass the country’s restrictions on illegal remote gambling.
