Lithuania implements stricter gambling regulations

Lithuania, officially the Republic of Lithuania, is taking stronger action to combat illegal gambling by restricting credit and debit card payments to all those gambling sites that are not on the government’s “white list.”
Approved by the Lithuanian Parliament, the new regulation makes it more difficult for unauthorized gambling platforms to target Lithuanian players. This means that only licensed operators who are allowed to legally offer gambling services in the country will have the option to accept financial transactions.
Moreover, operators have to provide detailed recipient information about gambling transactions, helping authorities better track and prevent attempts to bypass regulations.
While cryptocurrency and third-party payment services are still out of the target, this regulation still poses a significant challenge for illegal operators. Managers and responsible individuals at illegal institutions could face penalties ranging from €1,800 to €3,800.
Lithuania’s efforts to regulate gambling are still in the process, with new measures like raising the legal gambling age to 21 and restricting advertising set for 2025. The country’s actions align with broader European initiatives aimed at consumer protection and combating illegal gambling, positioning Lithuania as a leader in responsible regulation.
