Louis Vuitton accuses Maryland Live! of illegal trademark use
Louis Vuitton has filed a lawsuit against Maryland Live! Casino, accusing it of illegally using the brand’s trademark in its marketing campaigns to promote the casino.
Filed in Hanover, Anne Arundel County, on June 1, the lawsuit argues that Maryland Live! engaged in trademark infringement, counterfeiting, false association, and unfair competition. Louis Vuitton additionally noted that the casino’s promotions create a false appearance of a connection or a sponsorship between the brand and the operator.
The case revolves around Maryland Live!’s April 2026 campaign, during which the casino gifted backpacks, handbags, and other items, allegedly using Louis Vuitton’s flower logo without permission, with the brand’s LV logo being replaced by the word “Live!”
The lawsuit states:
“Patrons of Live Casino were never informed that the Infringing Products were not genuine Louis Vuitton products, much less that Defendants have no affiliation or any connection to Louis Vuitton.”
Louis Vuitton revealed that it had sent a cease-and-desist order to the casino; however, the operator followed by conducting another similar promotion in the form of a giveaway and failed to disclose that the items were not real branded pieces.
The case described Maryland Live!’s campaign:
“A particularly brazen move…to purposefully infringe the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram Design and to effectively link Louis Vuitton with defendants’ Live! Casino. This was done with one specific and intentional purpose: to falsely convey to the consuming public that Louis Vuitton and defendants’ Live! Casino are affiliated.”
According to the case filings, Louis Vuitton is now seeking up to $2 million per counterfeit mark, as well as asking the court for an injunction, corrective advertising, and destruction of any remaining fake products.
