Melco Resorts secures Sri Lanka license effective April 1

Melco Resorts and Entertainment, a company that has entertainment and casino gaming facilities in Europe and Asia, is excited to announce it secured a 20-year license to operate a gaming venue in Sri Lanka until April 1, 2044.

Sri Lanka’s first-ever casino project by Melco Resorts is expected to welcome its guests in Q3 2025. The casino project, which has a budget of $1 billion, is a joint venture with John Keells Holdings, a major Sri Lankan real estate developer. The operations will be handled by Bluehaven Services (Private) Ltd, a Melco subsidiary.

Melco commented:

“The group will continue to take a strategic, asset-light approach to global expansion, actively exploring new opportunities in emerging gaming markets.”

The development aims to strengthen Melco’s global presence, enhance regional tourism, and boost the local economy. The integrated resort will feature 800 hotel rooms, diverse dining options, and conference spaces.

Additionally, Melco is also investing $125 million to ensure the casino meets global gaming standards, aiming to bring significant economic growth to Sri Lanka and draw comparisons to similar successful projects in the region.
