With fixed odds, the potential payout for the bettor is set at the moment the bet is made, the same way odds work in traditional sports betting. Racing bets have traditionally been pari-mutuel, meaning all stakes go into a shared pool and payouts depend on how that pool is finally split, so odds can keep moving until the race starts.
Henry Williams, MGCB Executive Director, said:
“This change reflects where the horse racing industry itself is heading. Bettors have told us they want the same, straightforward, locked-in odds experience they’ve grown accustomed to with sports betting. Adding fixed-odds wagering to our catalog lets us meet that demand while continuing to support a fair and well-regulated horse racing market in Michigan.”
The bets will run through Michigan’s existing licensed online platforms and carry the same protections as other regulated sports wagers, including licensing rules, responsible gaming tools, and age and residency checks.
Michigan’s commercial and tribal operators reported online sports betting revenue of $55.5 million in September 2026, up 27%, as handle grew 5% to $544.8 million.
