Michigan to offer free access to gambling-blocking software

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has revealed that it has partnered with the anonymized self-exclusion program, Gamban, to give residents free access to the gambling-blocking software.

The regulator announced the news on April 23, 2026, noting that the move aims to support responsible gambling measures. Through the deal, residents will be able to get Gamban licenses for free, which can last for up to 5 years.

Executive Director of MGCB, Henry Williams, commented:

“Michigan is committed to ensuring that the expansion of legal gaming comes with the strongest possible safeguards for our residents. Our partnership with Gamban gives anyone who wants help a free, proven tool to block access to online gambling – instantly and across all their devices.”

The software is created in a way to block access to both regulated and unregulated gambling platforms and apps, including casino and sportsbook operators, and offshore websites.

Gamban’s director of external affairs, Matt Zarb-Cousin, added:

“When someone takes the first step toward quitting gambling, they will be made aware of all the services available in the state via the Gamban app, while it works to block gambling sites and apps in the background. This approach has improved overall rates of abstinence and recovery in other jurisdictions.”

Gamban can also lead players to support resources if they look for help for gambling-related problems, and the company also states that while the software is hard to remove, it doesn’t affect access to non-gambling platforms and websites.
