Netflix to launch a high-stakes casino crime series
On January 14, 2026, Netflix confirmed production of its new Korean crime drama The Dealer, a high-stakes series that dives deeper into the glamorous and dangerous world of casinos, with Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk on board as producer.
The series follows Geonhwa, a brilliant casino dealer whose carefully planned wedding falls apart, forcing her back into the gambling world she thought she’d never get into. Being a dealer with strong instincts and complete control at the table, she must use every trick in her playbook to survive a world ruled by money, deception, and risk.
The next main character, Hwang Chisu, is based on a luck gambler scraping by on whatever bets he can make. When he teams up with Geonhwa, the stakes get higher than ever.
Ryu Kyung-soo appears as Choi Wooseung, Geonhwa’s fiancé and a devoted detective, torn between his love for her and the shadowy world she’s drawn back into.
Directed by acclaimed cinematographer Choi Young-hwan (Tazza, The Thieves) in his feature debut and produced by Firstman Studio with Hwang Dong-hyuk at the helm, The Dealer promises intense games, high-stakes bets, and a gripping look at the seductive and deadly life inside the casino world.
