Nevada requests court to block Coinbase in the state
The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) filed a civil enforcement action against Coinbase on February 2, 2026, to block the CFTC-approved prediction market from offering event contracts to state residents without a Nevada gaming license.
The agency filed the complaint in the District Court for Carson City for a permanent injunction and declaratory relief, as well as an application for an ex parte temporary restraining order. The filing is requesting the court to stop Coinbase’s operations, as it is allowing users aged 18 and above to trade on the platform despite Nevada’s 21-year minimum age requirement for gambling.
The NGCB stated:
“The board considers offering sports event contracts, or certain other event contracts, to constitute wagering activity under NRS 463.0193 and 463.01962 and, therefore, entities offering such event contracts must be licensed.”
Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Mike Dreitzer added:
“The board takes seriously its obligation to operate a thriving gaming industry and to protect Nevada citizens. The action taken yesterday reinforces this obligation.”
The board pointed out that every day that Coinbase operates, it creates serious and irreparable harm to the market and gives the prediction platform an unfair advantage over licensed sportsbooks that pay licensing fees as well as taxes and comply with strict protection measures.
