New iGaming license requirements in Denmark
In light of intentions to “split up” the certification program for suppliers and operators, the Danish Gambling Authority will begin accepting new license applications for iGaming developers in September.
According to Spillemyndigheden, the regulator, suppliers must have a license by January 1st of the following year. The application procedure will begin on September 1st.
The watchdog further stated that a revised version of its certification scheme for online casinos and betting will be submitted for review in the middle of July before going into effect at the beginning of August of the next year.
Spillemyndigheden said:
“In the new version, the requirements of the current certification programme are split up, so that it is clear what the operator and the game supplier, respectively, are responsible for.”
Additionally, the regulator plans to introduce a new portal for handling game certifications, anticipated to go live on October 1st of this year.
The watchdog added:
“Both game certificates and other certifications made according to the current version of the certification programme will continue to be valid. There is thus no need for further certifications if a game supplier’s game or game system has already been tested and inspected. From July 1, 2025, it is mandatory to use the new certification program, but it is recommended that game suppliers and game operators adopt the updated certification programme as soon as possible.”
