The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) has imposed a $251,250 civil penalty on Caesars Sportsbook after regulators found multiple breaches in responsible gaming messaging and self-exclusion policies, with the authority further ordering the operator to pay an additional $45,465 in disgorgement.
The investigation into Caesars Sportsbook first began on August 5, 2026, as a result of which the regulator identified the violations and imposed the biggest penalty that the NJDGE has ever issued. Previously, New Jersey had fined operators $40,000 and $100,000, and the biggest reported penalty was $112,188, which was imposed on Super Group, Betway, and Jackpot City.
The NJDGE shared in a statement:
“It is hereby ordered that the Action in Lieu of Complaint dated August 5, 2026 and issued by the Division of Gaming Enforcement to Caesars Sportsbook regarding responsible gaming matters concerning non-compliance with N.J.A.C. 13:69C-14.2(b)…is hereby adopted.”
The stricter enforcement action is part of a broader trend in the United States, with gambling regulators in states like Ohio having issued penalties reaching $150,000 and $250,000 on operators including Barstool Sportsbook, Caesars, DraftKings, and BetMGM.
At the same time, the measure against Caesars Sportsbook isn’t the only one during the last year, as the operator was hit with a $10,000 fine in Massachusetts and an additional $7.8 million proposed penalty in Nevada.
