Ontario targets young men in new responsible gaming campaign
Ontario and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) have launched a new gambling harm policy targeted at men aged 19 to 24, with young adult men being viewed as a vulnerable group connected to gambling risks.
The measure includes the creation of a new public service announcement (PSA) and an update on the use of the Responsible Internet Gambling Fund (RIGF), which has $3 million in government funding to work with. Regarding the PSA, it will be added to Canadian channels, as well as Meta, Netflix, and Spotify.
CEO of RGC, Sarah McCarthy, stated:
“As online betting continues to evolve rapidly, we are seeing an increased risk of early exposure and normalized gambling behaviors, particularly among young men. This new campaign speaks directly to young adults, giving them the practical tools and guidance they need to make safer, informed choices. Thanks to funding from the RIGF, we can reach them where they are and make a real difference.”
Since the introduction of Ontario’s legal iGaming market, the PSAs have attracted more than $100 million in broadcaster investment, with the number specifically noted for showing the support for safer gambling messaging.
The government of Ontario has stated that the establishment of the fund reflects the fact that the expansion of the gambling industry has to be followed with strict measures to protect players.
