Parimatch becomes first operator to obtain Ukraine licence

Parimatch is now the very first operator to entirely authenticate its online gambling services within the Ukrainian territory as it acquired the licencing approval for sports betting, online casino and poker.

The gambling group said yesterday that it had finished its entire licencing arrangements in Ukraine, therefore being the first ever operator to secure a licence from the Commission for Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (CRGL), which was established not too long ago.

The approval for a sports betting licence comes after the firm obtained the licence for iGaming last month, as the new regulatory authority approved Parimatch and Cosmolot, the Spaceiks-owned brand, making them the first licensees in the country under the new law.

Even though the company has been wanting to launch in its own home country after it went 11 years without being able to do so, Parimatch will still be waiting the final online gambling taxation decisions from Rada, and is also awaiting licensing costs and approval of systems.

Parimatch has not yet disclosed a specific date for the launch of its online gambling services, as it is still waiting for the final verdicts. Maksym Liashko from Parimatch stated that the government should go over and review the extremely high costs of licencing policies, since this can be a great opportunity for mass foreign investment in the country in the future, which can hugely benefit its economy.

Liashko, Parimatch Holding Managing Partner, said:

“Work still remains to be done on reforming tax legislation before the Ukrainian market becomes attractive to foreign investors. Taxation should be transparent and logical so that it doesn’t create additional obstacles for foreign investors. Under favourable legal conditions, specialist market capacity and qualifications will allow Ukraine to become a gaming hub for the Eastern Europe region. Like Malta and Manila, Ukraine now has the potential to become a center of expertise for gambling entertainment.”
