Paris shuts down all gaming clubs
Starting January 1, 2025, all gambling clubs in Paris have been closed as a result of political uncertainty after the government’s collapse on December 5.
Parisian gaming clubs’ closure was announced back in December 2024. Almost 1,500 employees are now unemployed. While the Ministry of Labor has come up with partial unemployment benefits, covering 60% of staff salaries, many clubs are still at risk. Independent corporations are the main target of this news.
Sébastien Leclercq, General Manager of Circus Casino France, said:
“This situation is terrible for the 1,500 families who work in the clubs. We will not be able to last several months like this. The Ministry of the Interior and Labor supports us: they are receptive and try to help us.”
Despite support from the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Labor, Leclercq highlighted the important and significant contribution to the local and national economy that comes from the gambling market. Total contributions exceed €120 million. Out of which, €50 million was directed to public authorities, with €40 million going to the state and €10 million benefiting the Paris town hall.
Leclercq added:
“Some independent clubs no longer have any resources and are in danger.”
Despite companies’ previous inquiries for an extra time working allowance to safeguard employees, all clubs have been permanently closed.
