Penn iGaming app faces patent infringement lawsuit

Single Action Bet Tech LLC filed a lawsuit on December 12, 2025, against Penn Entertainment, alleging the company’s iGaming app Hollywood Casino infringed on two of its patents.

The patent lawsuit comes at a time when technology is gradually becoming an important part of compliance for online sportsbook and casino operators.

Single Action Bet Tech’s patent-protected technology allows reducing a wagering action, which usually takes three or four steps, to only one step.

In the iGaming industry, speed and efficiency are very important; the fewer steps a player must take to place a bet, the more likely they are to remain betting. This technology potentially boosts revenue for operators, making it likely to be mimicked or copied by other online gambling providers.

According to Single Action Bet Tech:

“Typical mobile games that accept real-money betting today require the user to use multiple clicks to: a) select a bet amount, b) place their bet, and/or c) begin the game. These multiple clicks may cause the user to become uninterested or unwilling to place the bet, especially on a mobile device, in which it is more difficult to click/touch on the proper portion of the user interface screen.”

In early December 2025, Penn launched its new theScore Bet app, replacing ESPN Bet. This will allow the operator to focus more on the Hollywood Casino app, which performed better than ESPN Bet.
