Philippines operators fight against possible iGaming ban
Three Philippines-based casino operators have issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to regulatory compliance and responsible gaming practices.
Debates intensify over the growth of online gambling in the Philippines and its effects on vulnerable individuals, which can lead to a possible iGaming ban. All three operators, Solaire Resort, Newport World Resorts, and Okada Manila, are also active in the iGaming space. They expect that their collective voices will reverse the circumstances.
The operators released a joint statement on July 14, highlighting that their online gaming operations are fully licensed and accredited by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
They stressed that their platforms are a “regulated and responsibly managed extension” of their operations. Central to their defence is the claim that all aspects of their platforms, from KYC protocols to AML procedures, stick to the standards.
The operators stated that player verification occurs within 72 hours of registration, which complies with the regulations. They also outlined their responsible gambling tools, which include self-exclusion programs, deposit limits, and account restrictions.
They emphasised a strict ban on underage access, mentioning the implementation of age-gating systems and technological measures such as geo-fencing and IP filtering to prevent offshore betting.
The casino-resort operators also pointed to their broader economic contributions, including a collective investment exceeding $1 billion aimed at boosting tourism.
Despite these assurances, the growing number of gambling advertisements has drawn criticism in the Philippines. Last Friday, PAGCOR ordered the removal of all gambling-related billboards and out-of-home advertisements by August 15.
PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco clarified that only institutional or responsible gaming campaigns will be permitted going forward, subject to PAGCOR’s approval.
