Polymarket banned in Argentina for offering illegal gambling
A court in Argentina ruled to ban Polymarket as a result of a legal case by the Buenos Aires City Lottery and the Argentine Chamber of Casinos against the platform, claiming that it was offering its services illegally in the country.
According to the case, Polymarket allowed players to place bets using crypto and cards without holding a license in Argentina and having no identity checks or age restrictions, making it dangerous for minors and presenting financial risks. Additionally, the platform didn’t have the necessary KYC requirements and didn’t appropriately prevent illegal money services.
Judge Susana Parada stated that the platform operated as an unregulated betting service and not as a true prediction market, ruling that Polymarket’s structure had gone against gambling regulations and violated consumer protection laws.
The case especially gained attention after the scandal connected to Argentina’s inflation rate release in February 2026, during which Polymarket correctly adjusted the inflation rate to 2.9% just 15 minutes before it was announced. This was viewed as evidence that inside information was somehow accessed or made public before the release time.
As part of the court ruling, the National Communications Entity has also ordered Apple and Google to remove the Polymarket app from their app stores available in Argentina.
