Canadian rapper Drake has lost $1.5 million after placing a bet on Argentina defeating Spain during the FIFA World Cup final on July 19, 2026.

According to a publication made on July 18, one day before the FIFA final, Drake had placed a $1.5 million bet on Argentina winning the tournament under a regulation-time condition on betting platform Stake. The payout stated that the rapper would have received $5.1 million had his wager gone through.

For context, the specific bet didn’t include extra time or penalties, meaning the condition must have been met during the regular 90-minute timeframe; however, the game ended with a 1-0 score in favor of Spain.

After Argentina’s loss, which also led to Drake’s failed bet, public discussions over the so-called “Drake curse” resurfaced once again, referencing the long-running superstition connected to the rapper and the sports teams he supports. Previously, Drake had placed a $1 million bet on Argentina beating France during the 2022 World Cup final in regular time, which also failed.

More recently, Drake had wagered that Conor McGregor would win during UFC 329 against Max Holloway on July 11, 2026. He had placed a $1 million bet on McGregor’s victory; however, the fight ended just 1 minute after its start with McGregor suffering a knee injury, leading to his defeat.
