Resorts World in scandal after Nevada complaint

Despite the recent complaint, Resorts World is committed to continuing its business.

Owned by the Genting Group, a Malaysian conglomerate, Resorts World Las Vegas, part of Resorts World, is a leisure, hospitality, and casino franchise that opened on June 24, 2021.

Recently a complaint was submitted to the Nevada Gaming Commission against Resorts World with the inquiry to cease its license in Las Vegas. The complaint states, that there are disciplinary violations in the resorts, such as illegal bookmaking and allowance of individuals with criminal backgrounds.

Via the Associated Press, Resorts World said:

“We are committed to doing business with the utmost integrity and in compliance with applicable laws and industry guidelines.”

The complaint mainly focuses on Matthew Bowyer, a Southern California bookmaker at the center of a betting scandal involving baseball star Shohei Ohtani and his former interpreter. Bowyer was banned from Resorts World in October 2023 after prosecutors accused him of operating an illegal gambling business for over five years in Southern California and Las Vegas.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has filed twelve complaints against Resorts World, including accusations of failing to distance themselves from illegal bookmakers.

However, Resorts World is determined to restore confidence and continue operating with the highest standards of integrity despite the scandal.
