RWA comments on new Australian iGaming pre-verification

Responsible Wagering Australia has commented on the recent implementation of mandatory pre-verification for online gambling in the country.

The newly-introduced pre-verification mandate has replaced the country’s old identity and age check system, which involved a 3-day period for operators to conduct all necessary verification. Under the new laws, which went into effect at the end of last week, gamblers will not be allowed to deposit and start enjoying the pastime until their identity is verified by the online gambling business they’re seeking to play at.

Responsible Wagering Australia, a major Australian gambling industry organization, has recently issued a statement about the implementation of the new mandate, saying that the new measures could help prevent minors and self-excluded gamblers from playing more effectively. The organization’s Chief Executive, Kai Cantwell, also mentioned in the piece that the new requirement will have a positive effect on the industry’s AML efforts.

Furthermore, the organization mentioned that Australian online gambling firms can instantly verify the vast majority of their users’ identities, which means removing the mandatory 72-hour wait period will enable regulated providers to offer Australian players a more frictionless gambling experience. The new pre-verification also has the possibility of providing users with an enhanced set of responsible gambling tools when registering, such as wagering and time limits.
