San Diego Police dismantled the 2nd illegal gambling den
For the 2nd time in 2 days, San Diego Police raided an illegal gambling den in City Heights, seizing 9 illegal gambling machines, $500 in cash, and a replica firearm.
The raid took place on Friday in the urban district east of Balboa Park, when investigators served a search warrant at Rrocky’s Market in the 4700 block of University Avenue.
Martha Sainz, Captain of San Diego Police Department, commented:
“At the time of the incident, there were four people inside the business partaking in illegal gambling activities. One person was arrested for probation violation, and the remaining three were given gambling den-related citations.”
On Thursday, another gambling den, operating out of a home in the 2600 block of Fairmount Avenue, was shut down by the police and members of the FBI violent-crime task force. The personnel arrested 6 people and seized 12 illegal gambling machines, 2 handguns, ammunition, narcotics, and more than $1,000 in cash.
In February, police found an illegal gambling operation taking place at the residence near Azalea Park while investigating a double shooting in the neighbourhood. The illegal gambling den was quickly shut down, but the police found it up and running again within a month.
Captain Martha Sainz noted:
“These dens often attract other criminal activity … including narcotics, prostitution, gang-related activity, noise and fighting, and people coming and going at all hours.”
San Diego Police Department continually works to investigate and address illegal gambling dens throughout the city of San Diego.
