SiGMA Central Europe in Rome to open with European Parliament President Metsola
Hon. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, and Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Antonio Tajani, will headline SiGMA Central Europe in Rome from November 3–6.
President Metsola will open the event on November 4 with a keynote address, followed by speeches from Hon. Tajani and SiGMA Founder Eman Pulis.
Taking place for the first time in Rome, this event brings together prominent voices from government, policy, and the public sector.
H.E. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament
A lawyer by training, Metsola is a child of 1979, a wife, and a mother of four sons. She made her way to the European Parliament in 2013 having previously worked at Malta’s EU representation.
Roberta Metsola was voted into the European Parliament in 2022, making her the youngest-ever in that position. In 2024, she was re-elected her, thereby becoming the first woman to serve two consecutive terms.
Metsola has been among one of the most vocal supporters of Ukraine. She also became the first leader of the EU institutions to visit the country after the war broke out. She has been working on Parliament’s transformation into a body that is more efficient and accountable.
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani
Tajani began working as a journalist in 1980 and has since then reported on the parliament, done anchoring for GR1 Rai and led the Rome newsroom at Il Giornale.
He was one of the founders of Forza Italia, as well as the party’s Vice President from 2018 to 2023 and National Coordinator from 2021 to 2024. Tajani was elected National Secretary of the party in February 2024. He has been a member of the European People’s Party as Vice President since 2002.
Antonio’s first election to the European Parliament was in 1994. In 2008, he held the position of European Commissioner for Transport, and later he was appointed Vice President and Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship in 2010. In 2017, he became President of the European Parliament.
Throughout 2019-2022, he led the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and the Conference of Committee Chairs. He has been serving as Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs since October 2022.
