SkyCity’s Michael Ahearne to leave CEO position

The CEO of SkyCity Entertainment, Michael Ahearne, has announced his forthcoming departure from the company.

Following a more than half-decade-long tenure at the company, Ahearne will be leaving his position at the gambling firm. He initially joined SkyCity in late 2017 as the group’s COO and was promoted to his current position a bit less than 3 years later in the last quarter of 2020.

The Chair of SkyCity Entertainment, Julian Cook, stated:

“Michael was responsible for the leadership of our company through difficult times, including during the fire and proceeding reconstruction of the NZICC, throughout the shutdowns caused by the pandemic, and the challenges of our Adelaide subsidiary. He has also played a significant role in the enhancement of the business’s compliance efforts and has helped SkyCity position itself excellently for continued growth. We would like to express our gratitude for his dedication to the firm throughout his tenure.”

Ahearne will officially depart from SkyCity at the end of March next year. The group has already initiated the search for the outgoing CEO’s replacement, considering candidates both internally and externally, and will be publishing an update upon completion of the process.
