Sportradar completes the acquisition of IMG ARENA
Sportradar has officially completed its acquisition of IMG ARENA, after receiving approval from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), clearing the way for the transaction to move forward.
Sportradar announced its plans to acquire IMG ARENA from Endeavor Group Holdings earlier this year. The goal was to strengthen Sportradar’s position in sports content, data, and technology. The CMA reviewed the merger to ensure it would not harm competition and gave its approval ahead of the initially planned October deadline.
Carsten Koerl, CEO, Sportradar, commented:
“With this, we are uniquely positioned to deliver even more immersive, data-rich experiences to our clients, partners, and fans around the world while accelerating innovation at scale across the global sports ecosystem.”
Under the agreement, Sportradar will not pay the total amount upfront. Instead, it will receive a total of $225 million, including $122 million in cash repayments to certain sports rightsholders and $103 million over two years.
With IMG ARENA joining the team, Sportradar will expand its coverage to over 1 million matches annually. IMG ARENA works with more than 70 rights holders, delivering around 38,000 official data events and 29,000 streaming events across 14 sports worldwide.
