Tabcorp and Entain struggle for WA TAB acquisition

The authorities of Western Australia initiated a final bidding movement for the sale of its bookmaker office — WA TAB

Entain PIc and Tabcorp are among the potential bidders of the bookmaker office. Entertain has ambitions to possess it as a retail asset for promoting its brands of Ladbrokes and NEDs. While Tabcorp is considered to be the preferred bidder to possess TAB as a result of which, it will run all Australia-based wagering offices.

Entain has long strived for expansion within Australia, as it seduced Tabcorp to sell its media and wagering assets for €2.3bln in last year. The chairman of the enterprise, Steven Gregg, refused to sell it and applied to ASX for splitting up the enterprise between TAB Wagering unit and Tatts Lottery division which the authorities of ASX are currently embarking on.

As a new clash is anticipated to take place between the two companies, another bid is expected from Mattew Tripp, the ex possessor of an Australian bookmaker Sportsbet AU.

If Tripp succeeds to win the bid, a new player may make an entry in the Australia’s market as he is known to be closely connected to News Corp International which has ambitions to operate across Australia.

Western Australia’s government is intended to complete the deal of WA TAW in the first half of the current year.
