The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) of Thailand has announced that it has blocked 13,888 websites connected to illegal gambling operations between June 1 and June 18, 2026.

The enforcement action aimed to target unlicensed platforms ahead of the World Cup 2026, which began on June 11, with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordering the ministry to remove non-compliant websites, social media pages, and any relevant URLs.

Authorities further shared that AI tools were used to identify and analyze gambling-related content on digital channels, extending enforcement to online promotions and direct access points leading to gambling platforms.

The Deputy Minister of the MDES, Bunthida Somchai, commented:

“Over the past 18 days, more than 13,000 items have been blocked by using AI technology to detect and analyze social media websites related to online gambling. At the same time, we would like to warn the public to be careful of publishing content that is considered illegal on digital media and social media, especially among websites related to gambling.”

At the same time, the government has warned restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues in Thailand to follow World Cup copyright rules, urging citizens and businesses to comply with viewing standards and stay away from all types of gambling activities that are especially promoted during the tournament period.
