The decision was based on a report from Special Manager Nicholas Weeks, who found that The Star had made progress on its reforms but still had many priority issues to solve. The casino will stay open under close supervision, Weeks will remain in his role for the same period, and an external adviser will continue supervising The Star Brisbane.
Deb Frecklington, Queensland Attorney-General, said:
“We have continued to set clear expectations for The Star to ensure the utmost integrity of Queensland’s casino operations. Queenslanders can have full confidence that we will take immediate action if The Star fails to deliver on its obligations.”
The Star was found unsuitable to hold a Queensland casino license in October 2022, leading to fines, Weeks’ appointment and a 90-day suspension order. That suspension had already been delayed multiple times, most recently from March 2025 to September 2026.
Frecklington added:
“Those expectations remain unchanged and, while I acknowledge the work of The Star to date, this extension will allow The Star to further demonstrate its delivery on key remediation commitments under the agreement.”
In New South Wales, The Star Sydney’s license suspension has been extended to June 30, 2027.
