UKGC Chair Marcus Boyle to resign in January
Marcus Boyle will leave his position as Chair of the UK Gambling Commission at the end of January of next year.
In a statement posted on its website, the UKGC commended Boyle for his work as Chair, whose tenure ends on January 31, 2025. After Bill Moyes was appointed to the position in 2017, Boyle replaced him as Chair of the Commission on September 5, 2021. At the time, Boyle’s term as Chair was scheduled to expire on September 4, 2026.
According to the UKGC, Boyle has led the Commission through three years of reforms to the gambling industry and its regulations in the UK. These changes include the issuance of the fourth National Lottery license, the continued implementation of the Gambling Act Review and White Paper, and the selection of a new Board of Commissioners.
The UKGC’s statement:
“The Board of Commissioners and colleagues at the Gambling Commission have expressed their gratitude for Marcus’s leadership, dedication, and contributions over the past three years, wishing him well for the future.”
The Commission has also stated that it is in a position of confidence with a clearly outlined way forward after the publication in April 2024 of its Corporate Strategy 2024 to 2027, indicating the priority focus areas for the regulator for the next three years.
Minister for Gambling Baroness Twycross stated:
“I am grateful for Marcus’s hard work and commitment to the Gambling Commission and public service over his tenure and wish him the best for his future endeavours.”
As the Commission moves forward with the changes included in the Gambling Act Review and the launch of the fourth National Lottery license, she also mentioned that the past three years have been of great significance.
