UKGC provides insights on Gambling Act Review

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), in collaboration with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), has been working on determining the impact of the Gambling Act Review.

The initiative arose from the need to have a meaningful approach to the challenges of the gambling industry. According to Bryony Sheldon, the UKGC’s Director of Policy, the UK Gambling Commission is focused on ensuring that the Gambling Act Review is carefully monitored. UKGC has a strategy to strengthen its evaluative capabilities over the 2024–2027 period.

With more than 60 measures highlighted in the Gambling Act Review, the evaluation will prioritize key areas. By engaging different voices, the UKGC aims to create policies that better serve both consumers and the gambling industry.

UKGC’s director of policy, Bryony Sheldon, commented:

“The experience of consumers, operators, and other stakeholder groups will be a key part of the evaluation in the coming months, as we welcome participation in surveys, interviews, and other planned research. Inevitably, the evaluation will involve choices and some pragmatism in terms of where to prioritize efforts. Fieldwork for the evaluation is expected to begin in the coming months, with further stakeholder outreach and updates anticipated for 2025.”

Recently, UKGC reported an 11% rise in gross gaming yield, highlighting the importance of protecting society from the dangers that come together with gambling.
