UKGC publishes market data for Q2 FY2023-2024
The UKGC has recently published further market data covering the country’s gambling sector in the second quarter of the 2023-2024 financial year.
The regulatory authority’s latest publication includes data from most of the country’s licensed operators and covers the period between March 2020 and September of this year. The UKGC utilized this data to make a comparison between the industry’s performance in the second quarters of the current and past financial years, which is the period between July and September.
The comparison revealed that the sector’s online gross yield increased by only 0.6% year-over-year, with licensed operators generating 1.2 billion pounds in the second quarter of the 23-24 financial year from their online operations. The UKGC mentioned that despite this increase being relatively small, the country’s total wagers increased by 10%, while active account numbers increased by 7% in the same period.
Breaking down these figures, the authority reported that the GGYs of sports wagering and slots, two of the country’s main gambling verticals, increased by 5% and 8% to 428 million and 589 million pounds respectively. The UKGC also mentioned that the number of hour-long or longer online slot gambling sessions rose by 4% in the period, although the duration of the average session experienced a decrease to just 17 minutes.
Lastly, the regulator added that the total yield of the country’s licensed operators, including their land-based offerings, decreased by 0.4% in the period to just under 540 million pounds.
