UKGC released NatCen survey results from 5,191 adults
UKGC released a survey conducted by NatCen between January and April 2024.
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is an executive, non-departmental public body of the Government of the United Kingdom, responsible for regulating gambling and supervising gaming law in Great Britain.
The Commission submitted a report from NatCen, the National Centre for Social Research, which is a registered charity and the largest independent social research institute in the UK, founded in 1969.
According to the report collected from 5,191 adults between January and April 2024, 48% of respondents engaged in some form of gambling activity in the past four weeks. 21% participated in only lottery draws, including both the National Lottery and various charity lottery draws. When excluding these lottery-only players, the general image of gamblers is being changed. The highest participation rate is from males aged 35 to 44.
Online gambling was reported by 38% of respondents, but this rate falls to 16% when lottery-only players are excluded. In addition to lotteries, the most popular gambling activities included scratchcards, betting, and online instant-win games. This data provides insight into current gambling trends and highlights shifts in participation patterns among different demographics.
Earlier this year, UKGC submitted its new regulation on safer gambling. A light-touch financial vulnerability check will be used in the gaming industry to protect players from gambling beyond their means. The checks apply to all online gambling players who have a monthly net deposit of £500.
