The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has suspended the operating licences of BresBet and Bet St George following concerns over possible regulatory failures.
The suspensions took effect on August 28, 2026, with the regulator opening licence reviews under Section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005. The UKGC said its enquiries found suspected failures related to social responsibility and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements.
Although the regulator hasn’t provided further details about the specific issues behind the reviews, both companies have been ordered to stop gambling operations until the UKGC is satisfied that they are meeting their license conditions.
Customers can still access their accounts and withdraw available funds during the suspension, and the Commission has also told the operators to treat customers fairly and keep them informed about any developments affecting their accounts.
BresBet operates a UK-facing sportsbook and casino offering sports and racing betting, virtual events, casino games, and live dealer tables, with its UKGC permissions covering remote bingo, casino, real-event, and virtual-event betting.
BresBet shared on its X account:
“Important update BresBet is currently temporarily unavailable following the suspension of its operating licence by the Gambling Commission.”
Bet St George is a newer operator, having launched its gambling website in March 2026. The brand offers sports and racing betting alongside virtual events, casino, live casino and bingo. The two businesses are based at the same address in Sheffield and share a director, according to Companies House records.
The UKGC stressed that the suspensions aren’t the regulators’ final ruling, as ongoing reviews are set to decide whether BresBet and Bet St George can continue operating under their UK licences.
