Vietnam to celebrate Christmas with new iGaming regulations
Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country where gambling is illegal, will tighten iGaming and card-based game regulations on December 25 to combat illegal gambling.
Vietnam aims to protect its society from gambling harm and risks together with providing a fair market to licensed operators. With this new ban, Vietnam will simplify the licensing process for online gaming providers by shortening the approval process.
Moreover, for all mobile version games, players will need to pass the verification step. In the case of being underage, parental control will be mandatory. All underage gamers will face stricter limitations, such as a 60-minute session, which will automatically block their access after 60 minutes.
Foreign gaming companies in Vietnam
Foreign gaming companies will not have the chance to avoid the new regulations of Vietnam. All those companies that had more than 100,000 monthly visits for six consecutive months must comply or face penalties, including fines, content blocks, or operational bans. Moreover, cross-border and unlicensed games will be heavily regulated with rules around labeling and compliance with Vietnam’s payment systems.
Vietnam’s Deputy Director of the Department of Broadcasting, Television, and Electronic Information, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, commented:
“Some companies submit applications for dozens of games at once. To ensure efficient processing, businesses are advised to divide applications into manageable batches.”
With this move, Vietnam highlights its dedication to providing a safer gambling environment.
