ACMA seeks to block 8 illegal gambling websites in Australia

Eight websites that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) believes offer illicit gambling throughout the country have been requested to be banned.

According to ACMA, these sites are operating against the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. In light of this, it is asking internet service providers (ISPs) to prevent users from accessing illegal websites. Among the flagged domains are Winport Casino, Clubhouse Casino, Jogi Casino, Dundee Slots, Lucky Hunter, Lucky Wins, Lukki Casino, Spin Fever, and Lukki Casino.

Around 975 gambling and affiliate websites have been blacklisted since the ACMA submitted its initial banning request in November 2019. Additionally, since the ACMA began enforcing regulations against unlawful offshore gambling, more than 220 illicit services have left Australia.

According to ACMA, it can take  action if a website provides games like online casinos, online slots, and in-play online sports betting that are not permitted by Australian law. If a website is running online gambling without a license, suspension can also be requested. Online casinos are not the only websites that can be blocked. Similar demands may also be made by ACMA against websites that run advertisements for unlicensed businesses that are not permitted to provide gambling services.

ACMA stated:

“We are reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, its unlikely to have important consumer protections. This means our laws can’t help if something goes wrong, like if the service provider withholds winnings. Australians can check if a wagering service is licensed to operate in Australia on our register.”
