Angola opens 30-day licensing period for operators
With the approval of the new Gaming Activity Law, Angola has opened a 30-day licensing window, allowing operators to submit applications to the Instituto de Supervisão de Jogos (ISJ).
The announcement of a new licensing period was revealed by the ISJ on July 8, 2026, aiming to give companies the chance to receive approval as the broader restructuring of the sector is still in process. Previously, iGaming licenses were granted for 1 year; however, under the reformed laws, operators will be permitted to offer their products legally for 10 years.
The ISJ stated:
“The document aims to ensure legal compliance and safeguard the stability of the sector, allowing for the implementation of the transitional regime until the publication of the Regulation of the Gaming Activity Law and the conclusion of future public tenders.”
The general overhaul of the gambling industry was first launched in October 2024, with the goal of improving and modernizing Angola’s regulatory framework. According to the Gaming Activity Law, it’s expected that the amended rules will ensure the industry’s stability and legal compliance, further supporting the ongoing transition from the previous regulations and preparing for future licensing tenders.
Additionally, interested operators will have to submit their applications through the Gaming Supervision System (SSJ), which is set to offer a standardized transition with stronger legal certainty and better implementation.
