Aristocrat celebrates its victory against L&W

Aristocrat Technologies has achieved a victory in its case against Light & Wonder for violations of intellectual property, including misappropriation of trade secrets in connection with L&W’s Dragon Train game.

On Monday, Judge Gloria M. Navarro of the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada ruled in favor of Aristocrat by granting its motion for a preliminary injunction against L&W concerning trade secret claims.

This decision stops L&W from proceeding with any sales, leases, or commercialization of their product, Dragon Train.

In response, L&W expressed their disagreement with the ruling and announced plans to appeal. They emphasized their commitment to defending against Aristocrat’s allegations.

L&W stated:

“We will present our defenses to a jury at trial.”

The court found that Aristocrat is “extremely likely to succeed” in proving that L&W misappropriated its trade secrets while developing Dragon Train. It noted that L&W was able to create Dragon Train without the same investment of time and resources that Aristocrat had put into its Dragon Link and Lightning Link games.

Matthew Primmer, chief product officer of Aristocrat, said:

“We are extremely pleased with the court’s decision. This ruling underscores the value of our intellectual property and reaffirms our commitment to protecting the integrity of our business.”

In its decision, the court highlighted the importance of protecting trade secrets and maintaining a fair competitive landscape, reinforcing the public interest in preventing any unfair advantages in the industry. This ruling underscores the significant implications for both companies as they navigate this legal challenge.
