Australia to set stricter regulations for online gambling

The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) introduced new stricter identity verification regulations for online gambling operators.

Introduced by the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC), online gambling operators will need to set new and complete applicable customer identification procedures (ACIP) before allowing players to gamble.

The new regulation was presented to start in September 2023. Operators were given a year to adjust to it, during which temporary measures allowed for some delays in customer identification. Starting September 29, 2024, all online gambling service providers are required to complete the ACIP before creating an online gambling account or providing any services.

Operators will no longer allow players to gamble until their identity is verified. This not only ensures compliance with the new regulations but also builds trust with customers, as secure identity verification processes help create a safer gambling environment.

Australia is constantly monitoring the gambling market. Recently, the country recorded the highest gambling losses compared to any other country, such as New Zealand and the US. This means that new rules will benefit the country, and the integration of effective ID verification technology is crucial for the growth of the online gaming industry in Australia.

By adopting these stringent measures, operators can mitigate risks and contribute to a more secure and responsible gaming landscape.
