Bally’s Bronx casino plan advances with the mayor’s support
With the help of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Bally’s Bronx casino project got the ‘parkland’ label removed from its site.
After acquiring the former Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in 2023, Bally’s plans to build a 500,000-square-foot entertainment complex. However, in May 2025, the NYC Council delayed a vote and put Bally’s Bronx Casino Plan’s future in limbo.
On June 11, 2025, with the support of the New York City mayor, the City Council voted 32 to 12 to pass the bill to remove the “parkland” label from the site of Bally’s proposed casino. Normally, these votes require 34 supporters, but since being supported by Mayor Adams, it could go forward with only 26.
Without the bill, it would be impossible for the Ballys to use the land for anything except a park or a golf course. Now, the bill heads to Albany for state lawmakers to decide. The deadline to apply for one of three downstate casino licenses is June 27.
If Bally’s gets the license, they’ll owe another $115 million. Some believe that the new government has pressure on lawmakers and makes them hesitant, requiring extra political pressure. If Albany rejects Bally’s bill, they may be out of the running, leaving only seven serious casino contenders instead of eight.
