BetMGM’s new policy bans users from harassing athletes

BetMGM has updated its policy to include anti-harassment measures for athletes, with user accounts to be suspended in case of violations.

The revised terms will allow BetMGM to restrict player accounts if a customer uses abusive or harassing language towards athletes, coaches, and league staff. The operator stated that the measure aims to show its commitment to the integrity of sports and the safety of players.

Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s chief compliance officer, said:

“We are unwavering in our commitment to sports integrity, and that commitment extends to safeguarding athletes, coaches, and league personnel. Our legal, regulated environment enables us to identify misconduct, investigate reports, and take action when necessary. Any confirmed instance of harassment will result in decisive measures, including account suspension.”

The update also aligns with BetMGM’s responsible gambling initiatives, like the integration of educational messaging with the help of the GameSense program.

BetMGM ambassador Barry Sanders added:

“As a professional athlete, I know how important respect is, both on and off the field. BetMGM is sending a strong message that harassment has no place in sports or sports betting. I’m proud to see BetMGM protecting athletes and promoting integrity.”

Harassment of athletes and sports professionals is increasing in the gambling industry, as online and in-person reports have become more common in recent years.
