Brazil sets $5.2M entry fee for betting operators

The SPA, the government’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets, has officially started to notify approved operators about the entry fee of $5.2 million.

Operators now have 30 days to provide payment confirmation and other documentation, including a declaration proving the legal origin of their funds. In case of a failure to meet the deadline, operating licenses will be archived.

Several major companies, including Entain (Sportingbet), Betsson, Flutter, Rei do Pitaco, and MGM LeoVegas, were among the first to receive notifications. The SPA’s notification, issued on November 19, emphasized that missing the deadline would lead to a permanent rejection of the application, in accordance with Article 13 of Law 14,790. Moreover, the entry fee is not the only news. Additional certification requirements come together with the news. The list of approved operators will be published in the Official Gazette by December.
