Brazil targets deceptive gambling advertisements on YouTube
Brazil’s Ministry of Sports has officially asked the Ministry of Justice to take serious action against illegal gambling by shutting down all misleading gambling advertisements on YouTube.
Ahead of the regulated market’s debut in 2025, Brazil is continuing to take vital actions in order to provide a safer gambling environment in the country. In the letter to the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Sports highlights that there are 53 accounts and 25 channels that are constantly promoting gambling by making it appear appealing. Moreover, some influencers have more than 2000 regular views, and this can really have a serious influence on people.
Giovanni Rocco, head of the secretariat of the Ministry of Sports, commented:
“These sites hide behind social media platforms to carry out scams. They deceive people through influencers, promising quick earnings and money to pay bills or go to the grocery store. But this is not gambling; it is a crime against the popular economy.”
It is worth mentioning that sometimes these advertisements include younger age group representatives to catch the attention of youngsters as well.
Brazil’s iGaming Market in 2025
The SPA, the government’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets, is focused on safeguarding players in the regulated market, enforcing marketing restrictions, and ensuring operators meet safety standards. With the new regulations starting in 2025, strict anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF), and strong IT security measures will be enforced to prevent excessive gambling. Recently, Brazil banned betting bonuses and advertisements.
