Chile’s Gambling Law Prohibits Slot Machine Usage Beyond Casinos

The Chilean authorities have officially legislated a law, banning slot machine usage except for in the territory of casinos

The law was accepted unitedly, with a total of 29 votes for the ban, and is currently passing to the next house in the bicameral legislature.

According to said act, a slot machine can be defined as any type of electronic machine that can accept bets in return for some usage time for the player, and generates wins on a random algorithmic basis.

Regarding the fact that slot games are considered ‘chance-based games’, their usage is banned in all land casinos that do not own a special licensing permission. The rule, however, does not yet apply to online casinos.

In the case-scenario of law violation, the punishment can be passed in a form of a fine at around 10,000-13,00 euros, or even a short-term imprisonment.

All slot machine owners must apply for a licensing to the respectable licensing authority, as well as the Public Ministry, in the span of 180 days, starting from the legislation of the act.

This was yet another action from Chile’s gov’s in the direction of affirming a foundation for responsible gambling and legalizing online gambling.
