Curaçao extends deadline for online gambling licenses

Casinos now have extra time to apply to Curaçao for a license for operating online gambling services.

Due to the low quality of many of the applications they received, the deadline was extended. Since several applicants were unable to submit their applications by the first deadline, they now have until the 30th of April. The Curaçao Gaming Control Board wants to ensure that everything goes according to plan and that companies may carry on as usual.

The Minister of Finance is dedicated to making sure businesses can function under the new regulations, the Board stated. But they also stated that this is the only postponement of the deadline they will permit. The Board released criteria in March in an effort to raise the standard of applicants. Applications that don’t match the requirements may require additional information or revisions, so processing time will increase, they cautioned.

Companies are now requesting licenses under the current gambling legislation in Curaçao. However, the licenses will be transferred to operate under the new guidelines once the new law takes effect.

The new law must be passed as soon as possible in order to combat money laundering and strengthen Curaçao’s financial situation, according to the minister of finance. But he also pledged to make changes to the bill in response to input from various parties, such as the Dutch government and parliamentarians.
