Ukraine plans stricter online gambling controls

On April 2, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that the government intends to tighten regulations regarding online gambling.

The people’s interests are to be safeguarded by this decision. On March 29th, a petition was submitted requesting these limitations, and it soon gathered enough signatures to be reviewed by the president.

Zelensky conferred with high-ranking officials to guarantee the efficacy of the modifications. To avoid detrimental effects on society, more control over internet gambling is the aim.

Soldier Pavlo Petrychenko, the petition’s creator, wants to prohibit gambling for military members when martial law is in effect because he thinks it can lead to addiction, particularly for soldiers who use it as a stress reliever.

To identify the best course of action, Zelensky required a comprehensive investigation of the circumstances. Prior to its legalization in 2020, gambling was prohibited in Ukraine. The industry paid taxes of about 267 million dollars in 2023 and fifty-six million dollars in the first two months of 2024.
