After Régis Dudena, Brazil’s Secretary of Prizes and Betting, left his position, Daniele Correa Cardoso was appointed as the new head of the country’s gambling regulator.

Before taking on her new role, Cardoso served as the deputy secretary of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) and replaced Dudena, who left to become Secretary of Economic Reforms.

She was previously the regulator’s general coordinator of responsible gambling and stressed that she would follow the established regulatory agenda.

Cardoso stated:

“The SPA’s priorities remain focused on consumer protection and the popular economy. We have a regulatory agenda for 2025 and 2026 and another for 2026 and 2027, including public consultation. The priority is the continuation of our work in combating the illegal market, monitoring, inspection, prevention of fraud and money laundering, and promoting responsible play.”

The leadership change comes just one year after regulated online gambling was launched in Brazil and two years after the creation of the SPA, and is intended to make sure that technical and policy measures are continuously improved.

According to the regulator’s website, 70 companies with 79 brands provide their services legally in Brazil at the moment and generated €5.96 billion in their first year of operations.
