DraftKings donated another $5m to the “Winning for Missouri Education” campaign, making its total donation more than $10m.
On Tuesday, September 17, the major US operators DraftKings and FanDuel together invested $14 million into a campaign supporting legal online sports betting in Missouri.
On the contrary, Caesars Entertainment had donated $4 million to oppose the campaign. The opposition group, “Missourians Against the Deceptive Online Gambling Amendment,” has not received any new donations recently.
To legalize sports betting or not
The debate on whether to legalize sports betting in Missouri has been actual for almost five years.
A recent poll by Emerson College/The Hill questioned 850 likely voters and found that a majority of Missouri voters support the idea of legalization. Those who support the idea are aged 30-39, while those who don’t support the idea are from older age groups.
Professional sports teams and major online betting operators like BetMGM, DraftKings, and Fanatics Sportsbook are also supporting the initiative.
Unlike them, land-based casinos are against the initiative as it will limit them to having one online betting platform less than the up to three they would have been granted under legislative proposals. Caesars, Penn Entertainment, and Boyd Gaming all have multiple brick-and-mortar casinos in Missouri, and that is why they donate and support “Missourians Against the Deceptive Online Gambling Amendment.”
In November, Missouri voters will vote and decide the future of sports betting in Missouri.
