Finland gets 50 iGaming license applications for 2027 launch

Finland has announced that it has received 50 applications from gambling operators that wish to obtain iGaming licenses ahead of the planned market launch in July 2027.

The National Police Board confirmed the information, reminding that each applicant must pay a €29,000 processing fee before the application is considered, as the board also has the right to request additional details from the operators.

Juha Katainen, Senior Adviser at the National Police Board, commented:

“The reliability and suitability of the applicants will be evaluated on the basis of documents, such as register extracts, certificates, and various reports, submitted by the applicant. The complexity of processing and evaluating applications is affected by the fact that the majority of applicants are foreign.”

At the moment, there is no set deadline for sending the applications, but authorities revealed that it will take around six months to process the submissions. On this note, the police urged operators not to contact them for updates about applications because it will further delay the processing period.

Katainen added:

“The best way applicants can help the processing of their application is by following the instructions given and submitting their application carefully.”

It’s expected that the National Police Board will continue supervising and issuing licenses until June 2027, after which the Finnish Supervisory Agency will take on the role.
