Liu notified Flutter’s board of his resignation on September 28, after coming out of retirement in April 2025 to take the CLO role on what was meant to be a three-month basis, but ended up staying for around 18 months.
Traynor, who has served as Flutter‘s group company secretary, took on the interim legal chief role on October 1 while keeping his existing company secretary duties. Before joining Flutter, he worked in the telecommunications industry, formerly working with Vodafone and Fónua. Additionally, Flutter hasn’t said whether it plans to run an external search for a permanent chief legal officer or promote from inside the company.
Liu shared:
“The opportunity to try something completely different at the world’s leading online gaming company was too irresistible. In my second attempt at retirement, I feel more confident and clear about how to make it more enjoyable, more meaningful and more relaxing.”
Traynor’s appointment came on the same day Flutter’s new group chief executive, Dan Taylor, formally started in the role, replacing Peter Jackson.
