GamCare has recently published an annual report covering the charity’s operations throughout the 2022-23 financial year.

One of the most important figures highlighted by the charity was the number of people who reached out to it for support through phone calls and online chats, which surpassed 44 thousand in the year ended on the 31st of March 2023, representing an increase of just under 5% year-on-year. The charity mentioned that this figure was the highest ever recorded throughout its more than 2 decades of providing support.

GamCare also highlighted several other key findings, including a total number of just under 38.5 thousand treatment sessions for 9 thousand people. The charity found that the majority of people seeking help through the country’s gambling helpline were men at just under 70%, while 30% were women. Additionally, the organization also found that people who reported being affected by problem gambling most commonly were impacted by anxiety, financial hardship, and depression, with these issues being reported by 80%, 72%, and 62% of those utilizing GamCare’s treatment services respectively.

Another one of the charity’s highlights in the period was its educational efforts, through which GamCare was able to educate almost 16 thousand professionals who work with people vulnerable to gambling harm. In addition to this, the organization was also able to reach more than 45 thousand younger people through its awareness workshops, which represented a 60% increase from last year’s reach.
